Assignment, Suit and Tie Johns, May 2013
Title: “Paul”
According to the release of their LP ‘Paul’, psychedelic garage band Suit and Tie Johns asked me to take the photographs for their upcoming album. Instead of iconic elements like guns, mud, highways, moustaches, pickup trucks, boots, alcohol and sexy girls, I chose to focus solely on a modern apartment building, an old pipe, and a vast, empty sky. The old pipe was knocked down shortly after the shoot. The picture was brutally yet beautifully reworked by graphic designer Bas Reijnen to put the whole piece together. The band was thrilled with the result.
‘Teun’ is one of the four portraits I shot with them. Everyone who bought the album now has a psychedelic Teun, Paul, Nick, and Xavier in their home.
